That way you may determine if the problem is with the disk or with the cabinet/USB system.
(1) I don't think he said that it worked with Windows. He said it could be detected but then Linux has also been able to detect it. (2) I didn't say it was a hardware problem did I? :) I do think it is a possibility though, as is firmware, as is software. Separating the components will help to isolate the source of the trouble.
