Question for productivity gurus:
Are there any multi-functional pieces of equipment (printer/copier/scanner/fax machine, all in one) that work with Linux?
My wife is busy arranging the port of a reasonably large network from Windoze to Linux, and this appears to be a major stumbling block. Local equipment vendors claim no such thing exists and that it can't be done. I fume at this (:-)) and insist that anything that can be done on a network can be done with Linux on a network.
The all in one requirement might break this. If you could repartition the problem, it could well be do-able. For example I use an HP Laserjet 1220 [not deskjet] and after some battles with Samba and CUPS, this prints well and photocopies. It will also scan, but I have not got round to that yet. Plus for your application it is not flat bed, which you might require. Having this unit, if I wanted to fax I would then look for Linux applications to print scanned images and do general printing to fax. [Not that I would, because I think faxes are quaint] If the network already has a machine running print services, it would only need a fax modem, plus some equivalent to the HP 1220 HTH Vince Littler
