This error looks like the same one I got with my workstation in the office. The fix for that machine was to make sure the hd was master and the CDROM that was attached was slave. The machine at work was a Compaq and they often do silly stuff like set both devices "cable select" which is bad..very bad. Check to see if your cdrom is either master if it's the only device on the EIDE chain or if it's slave if it's attached to the hd on the EIDE chain. * Peter B Van Campen (peterb924@ameritech.net) [020630 18:30]: ::Hi again, :: ::My /var/log/messages is filling up with these:Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: " ::" ::ATAPI device hdd: ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05) ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: Invalid field in command packet -- (asc=0x24, ::ascq=0x00) ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: The failed "Read CD" packet command was: ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: "be 04 00 00 2b 57 00 00 01 f8 00 00 " ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: hdd: packet command error: status=0x51 { ::DriveReady SeekComplete Error } ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: hdd: packet command error: error=0x54 ::Jun 30 19:49:59 linux kernel: ATAPI device hdd: ::Jun 30 19:49:59" ::This is with an audio cd in the drive, is this normal msg or a real error? -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- Tell me what you believe..I tell you what you should see. -DP --=====-----=====--
