SLES 9 portmap not starting.

Dear SuSE People, I have a strange problem portmap (SLES 9) absolutely refuses to start. Can somebody pls assist. It is an odd thing when everything else seems to be ok. This the tenth install of SLES I have done and the most perplexing problem so far. Regards Paul K
