You could use the session manager in KDE. Set things up the way you want it, then log out. You can then log back in and turn off the auto save, and set the session manager to remember the saved session. You can even hand it a list of applications to ignore if you want to keep the auto-save feature rolling. I can't imagine needing to baby KDE! --andy
