Hi,
So I decided to have another attempt to move my Alcatel USB ASDL Modem from my Windows workstation to this new machine. I have been trying to follow the how to at...
http://www.linuxdude.co.uk/docs/Alcatel-Speedtouch-USB-mini-HOWTO/ speedtouch usb.html
If you do a standard SuSE installation with 7.1 the kernel is most likely 2.2.18 instead of 2.4 Easiest way to fix this is to run YAST and to then install kernel 2.4 So now you have 2.4 but the packages at linuxdude require at least 2.4.2 At linuxorg you can download up to kernel 2.4.5 so take you're pick.
I have just installed 7.2 on this machine with the standard 2.4 kernel.
B.T.W. I've got the same problem with my Alcatel USB SpeedTouch. And I haven't been able to get it working yet either. I requested support from SuSE but they told me, as the driver is a "closed"source driver, it's not supported.
If you have any luck, I would appreciate any info you might have. Cheers Phil
