[opensuse] Kmail delete

I have fairly efficient spam filtering - needed with an email address like mine. I presort spam into different categories but always scan it manually. On previous suse releases if I select and then delete a block of mails using shift delete they would be deleted. Now only the ones I have read are deleted. The unread ones are moved to trash. Not so good for me because some mail goes there automatically. I scan that too. How can I get the normal kmail shift delete back?
