I am able to export ext4 filesystems using nfs-kernel-server - but using nfsv4. Haven't tried nfsv3, but I can't see why there would be a problem. my ext4 mount options are /mnt/backup ext4 rw,relatime,user_xattr,acl,barrier=1,data=ordered my /etc/exports /mnt/backup *(fsid=0,crossmnt,rw,root_squash,sync,no_subtree_check) I know that doesn't really help, but you might try using nfsv4 just to see ...
