Edit the /etc/inittab file. Change the line for initdefault from run level 5 to run level 3. This will take effect at the next reboot. To have it take effect iummediately, type 'init 3' in an xterm to drop to the character interface. ~~~~~~~~ "I once thought of making a Linux distribution... then I slapped myself silly and went back to trying to cure cancer." -- Anonymous Greg Krpan (krpan@usgs.gov) Senior System Administrator / UNIX Team Lead Raytheon ITSS USGS EROS Data Center, Mundt Federal Building Sioux Falls, SD 57198 (605) 594 6854 "Kenneth Becker" <kjbecker@cais.c To: "SuSE Linux List" <suse-linux-e@suse.com>, "SuSE Linux List" om> <suse-linux-e@suse.com> cc: 08/29/2002 10:22 Subject: [SLE] How To Boot Into Character Mode With SuSE 8.0 PM Dear List, Hate to ask this, but how does one avoid going directly into X-windows at boot time? I would prefer to begin with the Character User Interface, if a simple change would make that happen. Thank you for any assistance offered.
