Starting with the ./rescan-SCSI-bus it's evident that the OS has identified your scanner on the chain at ID 4. Further, ID 4 is "known" as sg1. Likewise, just doing a scan of the bus finds the scanner at ID4. So first question is do you have generic SCSI support, not SCSI emulation.and the answer is yes because it shows up with a sg indicating it is a character device. That's very important. If interested, you can confirm this by KDE/SuSE Control >> System >> Linux Kernel Configurator >> SCSI support sub menu to see if it is checked. Next, let's use YaST in console mode: go to System Admin ==> Integrate hardware ==> Configure scanner Your scanner should show up as someting like /dev/sg1 with a bunch of info displayed about it, i.e., vendor, host, and device type. In that screen choose the scanner make and let SuSEconfig do it's thing. Hopefully that will fix things. Now, as root rerun ./rescanscsi-bus.sh, sgcheck, and chmod777 /dev/sg1 Finally, as user, run scanimage -L; you should see output similar to: 'umax:/dev/sg1' is a Umax Astra 2200s flatbed scanner. If this is so, now launch the GIMP, select File --> Acquire --> Device Dialog. The SANE setting and preview panels should open. Try scanning something. Let me know if this helps. Again, I've not tried this with 9.1 because I've simply given up onit. regards, dave Doug McGarrett wrote:
