It was Trackbird. I didn't find any references to it, so I thought it was safe. With the thousands of messages I keep and need to search regularly, I hoped it wasn't hurting me.
I have disabled it. Trackerbird is the Gnome Tracker integration for indexing. Thunderbird has its own indexing for fast full text search within Thunderbird so you are still able to search fast within TB (according to your indexing

I am most appreciative for that explanation. When I read the add-on functionality, it didn't mention any of that at the time. I don't even use gnome, so that would be useless to me.
