You are running kernel 2.0.30, correct? I have searched the xfree.org site and cannot see that this would be a limitation on using X 4.0.2, but it may. I am using kernel 2.4.0, just recently upgraded from 2.2.18. Which version of SuSE do you have? This leads me to ask where you got 4.0.2, from SuSE? Is it the one designed for SuSE 7.0? This may cause a problem, but I really have no facts that confirm that. SuSE has an update to kernel 2.2.18 in RPM form. Maybe someone who better understands the relationship between SuSE version, kernel version and X 4.0.2 will jump in here. In the meantime I am editing my XF86Config file based on your X logfile to send to you as an attachment.
