Hello all,
Well, I've got my 8.0 installed and it's running very well. However, I've got a problem with my nvidia drivers.
I installed the current 2880 drivers via Yast2 and I can run "Gears" fine. However Tux Racer won't run and when I try to run quake3, I get this error:
Using XFree86-VidModeExtension Version 2.1 XF86DGA Mouse (Version 2.0) initialized XFree86-VidModeExtension Activated at 640x480 Using 8/8/8 Color bits, 24 depth, 0 stencil display. GL_RENDERER: Mesa X11
Try the following:
# cd /usr/lib # ls -l libGL*
if libGL.so points to the mesa lib and libGL.so.1 points to the nvidia lib ( which happened on a nvidia machine of mine ), do:
# rm libGL.so # ln -s libGL.so.1 libGL.so
and try running quake

You are using software Mesa (no hardware acceleration)! Driver DLL used: libGL.so If this is intentional, add "+set r_allowSoftwareGL 1" to the command line when starting the game.

I've got my /etc/X11/XF86Config file set correctly -- with:
Load "glx"
and I also changed the driver from "nv" to "nvidia." I get the nvidia splash screen fine too, so it appears the drivers are loading ok.
It looks like quake and tuxracer are trying to load the mesa opengl drivers. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get the "glx" nvidia driver loaded instead.
Thank you for your assistance.
Charles
Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions. I am not at my Linux machine at the moment, but I will follow your suggestions tonight and report back. Thanks again for all the help.
