I am still trying to work out what exactly that you are missing from KDE3 of which you speak above. Perhaps a concrete example?
In KDE3, when you clicked on the geeko to open the menu and pressed /, a box would open where you could start typing the app name. As you did that, the menu selection would narrow until you found the app you wanted, so that you could click on it.
