Thanks, I will try ASAP this solution and I will post a message about this configuration trial. Only a doubt: which address to choose for the eth0 device? I have found some documents about my modem that give the IP address of the device: do I have to relate the ethernet address to it? The indicated IP has been reported in many italian sites, and it has been obtined using modem-PC connection through COM1 and telnetting to it (by the guys who posted the message):
Ip Address Mask If Name BCast Addr MaxReasm ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 lo-0 1 65535 192.168.222.254 255.255.255.252 eth-0 1 65535
I suppose the address should be in the form 192.168.X.X, is it right ?
Right. SuSe administration guide says: "The ppp and smpppd packages must be installed. It is best to use YaST for this purpose. Configure your network card with YaST. Do not activate dhcp. Set a fixed IP address instead, such as 192.168.2.22. "
routing > insert dns server IP
DNS server are not provided: what choice, then? given by the server ?
try 195.238.2.21 skynet.be But if you search google, you should be able to find your provider's dns. FX
