Since this morning, the Chromium browser will no longer be maintained on the openSUSE OBS, nor will it be provided together with the openSUSE distribution.
Instead the Chromium browser will be build on Packman and be available for the already supported openSUSE versions. This new version will replace the chromium-ffmpeg package that was already delivered through Packman.
Anyone care to explain what is going on. Now you see it, now you don't.....
Carl,
What are you not understanding? chromium-ffmpeg is no longer part of openSUSE itself and has been moved to Packman:
cbell@circe:~> zypper info chromium-ffmpeg Loading repository data... Reading installed packages...
Information for package chromium-ffmpeg:
Repository: Packman Repository Name: chromium-ffmpeg Version: 25.0.1329.0-101.1 Arch: x86_64 Vendor: http://packman.links2linux.de Installed: No Status: not installed Installed Size: 2.6 MiB Summary: The ffmpeg lib for Google's opens source browser Chromium Description: FFMPEG library built from the chromium sources. cbell@circe:~>
Note the "Repository" and "Vendor" lines. Does this answer your questions?
As a follow-up, this is the bit I think is weird in light of the announcement:
cbell@circe:~> zypper info chromium Loading repository data... Reading installed packages...
Information for package chromium:
Repository: openSUSE-12.2-Update Name: chromium Version: 24.0.1290.0-1.19.1 Arch: x86_64 Vendor: openSUSE Installed: No Status: not installed Installed Size: 120.9 MiB Summary: Google's opens source browser project Description: Chromium is the open-source project behind Google Chrome. We invite you to join us in our effort to help build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web, and to create a powerful platform for developing a new generation of web applications. cbell@circe:~>
Again, note the Vendor and Repository lines.
I believe *that* is the entire point: 08:08 Crash121: ~ # rpm -qi chromium Name : chromium Version : 25.0.1329.0 Release : 2.1 Architecture: x86_64 Install Date: Mon Nov 19 09:07:32 2012 Group : Productivity/Networking/Web/Browsers Size : 145130967 License : BSD-3-Clause and LGPL-2.1+ Signature : RSA/SHA1, Sun Nov 18 16:31:15 2012, Key ID 45a1d0671abd1afb Source RPM : chromium-25.0.1329.0-2.1.src.rpm Build Date : Sun Nov 18 15:43:12 2012 Build Host : uschi Relocations : (not relocatable) Packager : packman@links2linux.de Vendor : http://packman.links2linux.de URL : http://code.google.com/p/chromium/ Summary : Google's opens source browser project RE: Vendor and Repository lines. But there is *no* "chromium" packaga available at packman, now. Chromium-ffmpeg *is* available. chromium-ffmpeg-25.0.1329.0-101.1.x86_64 -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
