the question is, on which machine is the nfs volume going to be mounted? i assume if you are using wingate proxy on another machine, you will be using a windows machine and you are trying to install linux on another machine which is hooked up to the net proxying through the windows box. am i right? if that is the case, i don't think you can do ftp over nfs. but if you have a machine on which you can install one of the *bsd unix, which ftp installation support is available right out of the stock installation boot disk, then what you'll do is to install something like netbsd (which is very small, very quick to install) on that spare machine. after the installation, mount the nfs volume onto the netbsd machine's ftp home. then install linux on the machine you wanted. i don't think it is impossible to make a boot disk for linux that supports ftp install, but i am not a boot disk expert. there are linux distributions which you may install over ftp. one such distributions is redhat. i don't know much about others like slackware and debian. it has been a long time since i last installed a slackware or debian. but please don't think i am asking you to install redhat. it is a sad case that suse does not have ftp installation option. hope this helps. regards, C. ok.. i have a BAD situation for a FTP install with any type of linux.. i need to do an FTP install .. but in my install disk there is only harddisk,CD-ROM, or NFS.. the closest one that i could use at this point ,due to lack of hard drive space, is NFS.. i was wondering if there was a way to do an FTP install "thru" a NFS type deal and also go thru a WINGATE 2.1 proxy.. if you people think that this is impossible, then please tell me and i will try something else (of course) if you think you even might have something for me to try or need more information put it on this list or mail me at chilini@inlink.com.. thanks
