Here's the results from /var/log/messages (localmessages has a couple less entries) after unremarking debug & kdebug 3 in options:
Try enabling or entering this line in "/etc/syslog.conf": kern.* -/var/log/kernel And restart syslog: rcsyslog restart; perhaps you can see something in the kernel log, who knows.
I'm sorry. I don't see anything that jumps out and says "here I am"! I'm still trying.
No... it doesn't :-(
Any other ideas???
Anything on the LCP entries, just before the signal? Every minute you should see something like this: Sep 3 20:33:08 nimrodel pppd[3414]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0x9 magic=0x6534bb7e] Sep 3 20:33:08 nimrodel pppd[3414]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0x9 magic=0xfc54d42f] Sep 3 20:33:38 nimrodel pppd[3414]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0xa magic=0x6534bb7e] Sep 3 20:33:38 nimrodel pppd[3414]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0xa magic=0xfc54d42f] It is a kind of connection ping. If there is no response, pppd will kill the connection, assuming it doesn't work. This is a normal "off" sequence: Sep 3 20:34:08 nimrodel pppd[3414]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0xb magic=0x6534bb7e] Sep 3 20:34:08 nimrodel pppd[3414]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0xb magic=0xfc54d42f] Sep 3 20:34:20 nimrodel pppd[3414]: Terminating connection due to lack of activity. Sep 2 02:24:17 nimrodel pppd[9744]: script /etc/ppp/ip-down, pid 11031 In both cases, I see a "TermReq" message; but not in your case. It seems as if the connection goes down fast, not controlled by pppd. Either that, or LCP logs aren't printed in your log :-? If the "TermReq" isn't really there, I would suspect it is the modem terminating the call. What for, why, I can not imagine. Errors, noise... are you sure the init string is the same as in windows? It is also possible in windows to produce a log of the connection: make one, and compare.
