I don't see why the LAN would be related to the cmos clock a particular machine has.

Each runs Linux, the newer 2.6.22, the elder 2.6.15. "now" on each was created via telnet login. "test" was created on the LAN server and copied to each STB via MC FTP. Each STB displays correct local time on the TV and for file lists displayed via telnet login, makes timer recordings in sync with the programs they were set to record, and sets its clock via NTP.
