If anyone could explain why sound is completely broken in 5.3 I could use some help. I have been compiling sound as a module since 2.0.29 and I have always had a perfectly functioning system. 5.3 won't load the module unless I manually insmod it, and then midi is still completely broken. I downloaded fresh 2.0.35 source to see if it was the 5.3 sources, but it's something else in the os because it displayed the same behaviour. This is _really_pissing_me_off_. I have compiled dozens and dozens of kernels since I started using S.u.S.E. with S.u.S.E. 5.1 and I am not doing anything differently and I am 4 kernels into 5.3 and none of them have had properly working sound.
When I installed 2.0.35 from the source, I copied over my .config file and did a make menuconfig to make sure that it was included. My sound worked fine (I have always had trouble with midi on my SB16, so I have never installed it . . .). I should note that I haven't received my copy of 5.3, yet. This experience was on 5.2 installing the tar.gz kernal source. Therefore, try copying over the .config file.
