want/need to get sound working on my dual processor Suse 6.4 box. The support page has an update to the stock sound driver, but then states:
"Please note, that the modules of this update will not work with SMP machines."
Recompile alsa from source on an SMP box and install/configure it with alsaconf. [That's what I did. I am writing this mail on an 6.4-SMP box with a working alsa.]
But then offers no alternative. I did try to install it anyway, maybe they were lying ;) Nope, they were telling the truth alright, doesn't work on my SMP machine. The problem is that part of alsa are kernel modules. Like all other kernel modules you need to use SMP-compiled modules instead of UP-modules.
Does anybody have an alternate solution?????? OSS perhaps?
