I need to build some SuSE 10 Enterprise Desktop and SuSE 10 Enterprise Server Linux platforms for home use and have a few questions. I want to keep the cost down as much as possible but have good performance. What's the relative performance difference between the systems below? The cost difference is large. * Intel Pentium 4 3.4Ghz or higher, 2MByte Cache, 800FSD with H/T - Lowest cost solution o Would include 2GBytes of DDR2 667MHz memory * Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz, 1MByte Cache, 800FSB no H/T o Would include 2Gbytes of DDR2 533MHz memory * Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.67GHz o Would include 2Gbytes of DDR2 667MHz memory Should I consider AMD and what chip set should I consider? I am looking to keep the cost down to $1,700 per box while getting the best performance possible. Also where is a good place to purchase the systems or should I consider building them myself?
