snd_via82xx stays silent

Hello folks, maybe s'one solved this. I have an onboard VIA8233 AC97 sound controller Alsa Module snd_via82xx loads and fails without error -- just no sound. Diddled with all the controls, googled, but no avail. Any of you have an idea ? Regards Dan
