I first want to say thanks for all the good information that comes out in this list. I replaced the linux source package (de-installed, reinstalled) with the lx-suse source package and reconfigured / recompiled my kernel to support an AWE 64 card. Post this, I managed to frag my boot floppy and since then, have not been able to create a boot floppy that will get me into my root system successfully. I have been getting in with the S.u.S.E. install disk and CD... I was always successful in the past week with a boot floppy created by YAST / sys admin / create boot disk ... However now with a disk created in the same way, I get into the boot start load of my root file system on /dev/sdb1 and all hardware is recognized and config'd as normal, then right after the nic is recognized I hang at:
VFS mounted extfs2 ect. ect. ect. (or something like this)
And that is all she wrote!
Looks to me as if you forgot to compile ELF executable support into the kernel. So it is unable to start the init process. Check your kernel configuration and make sure CONFIG_BINFMT_ELF is set to "Y".
I have to go back in with the install disk again.. I saw someone mentioned removing LINEAR from the LILO.CONF file with regard to another boot problem posted here. I will try that next when I leave here...
That's a completely different problem. Your kernel gets loaded by LILO, so you do not have any problem with your /etc/lilo.conf
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Hubert,
Thank you for the reply, I checked this right after I read you message and you are right (sort of), I did have both a.out and elf set as modules. This will not work though if needed at boot time, as the modules can not be called until after the initial boot.. I will leave another message verifying that this was it, if I can now boot from floppy. I did this in the first place because I needed to shave down the kernel size for a successful compile, and didn't realize that elf was needed during boot.
Thanks again & Kind Regards, Perry Moon Tampa Florida
