A quick FYI followup. I have not recompiled my kernel. I know how, but I have not done that. So we can eliminate that as a problem. (at least for my box) All the *.mp3 *.wav sounds have and are working, I only have trouble with midi files and midi here. More thoughts to ponder... If ALSA and OSS are conflicting then how do we decide to go with one or the other, (without reinstalling 7GB.) Which one should be removed? I have a feeling / leaning toward removing OSS... <RANT> I never had OSS on any of my boxes before, I always used "soundcfg" and I always thought OSS was commercial from Caldera.... Plus my sound card always worked flawlessly (which is really why I bought the soundblaster 16 in the first place.) I must admit I have never seen all these sound programs that come with SuSE. (very impressive.) But I have only ever used Kmid Kmidi (whatever it is bundled in mandrake) It really wouldn't be an issue with me except; I would like to hear the drum machines ;o) I play guitar, so I don't really use the computer for music. Just my Carvin Amps and my ol' Ibanez. (I use a tape deck to record) On Friday 06 July 2001 07:29 am, you wrote:
One question - do either of you have any problems with your sound card other than the error messages. From what Keith goes on to say about the KDE startup sounds, it seems that at least he's getting sound out of it. My soundcard also seems to be working fine, although I've only tried it with wave and line-in stuff - no CDs or MIDI.
