DUDE! You da man... I can't believe I didn't find this... I've spent who knows how much time poking around with options in the Control Center trying to find something.
OK I'm looking at that now and see the second icon down with the CD and the eigth notes on it... shows kscd but yet it doesn't happen. Uhm... now what? Oh yeah, it is checked too... all of the icons are checked and have some tool assigned. Indeed everything is checked on here but the 2nd and 3rd boxes at the top. (start apps at login and active polling)
Thanks for the push!

hmmm... No response at all? Is this question just too stupid to answer?
As my father once said, there are never stupid questions, only stupid people. ;) just kidding.
You need to set your default audio cd player with the SuSE Hardware tool. This should be running by default in the system tray. Just right click and then left click on configure.
Ok folks, after a few pushes, the bulb is dimly lighting and I think I have figured out part of the puzzle. With this PARTICULAR disc, since it has this "CD EXTRAS" content with a video etc. on it, SuSE is asking me if I want to open a browser window or not. And if I just want to listen to the CD I choose NO but at that point SuSE thinks it has done it's job and so it is finished prompting me. The Hardware tool is configed to do offer the kfmclient on the mixed content disc and it does. Then I say No. I was EXPECTING it to then go ahead to the KsCD option but it doesn't. ...ok... what about an older plainjane Audio CD? no go. pop it in and nothing happens. If I open KsCD manually it works fine. Sees the CD content and off it goes. still perplexed... Steve In a world without walls or fences, who needs Windows or Gates?
