I'm using cdparanoia to read CD and bladeenc to encode wav into mp3. Works pretty well, though I am not sure of bladeenc availability.
Thgis will take you to the sourcecode for bladeenc. Unforunately, Tord's another victim of the big music biz vs. hackers.
