Just to share my joy, the installation of 7.1pro on my office's notebook (Acer TravelMate 734TL) is very smooth and no problem, everything (sound, video, Ethernet port, USB mouse) are working with only one exception: the built-in Lucent win modem.
I tried the Lucent driver but it refused to work and complaint on Not working under Kernel 2.4?
I really like to get it to work so that I don't need to use PCMCIA modem (sound like a joke to others). Can someone help me on this or is there any newer driver for the Lucent win modem?
TIA, Dennis/sg
Sorry about that Dennis, but win modems don't work with Linux. What makes a win modem work is the software that is loaded into windows. The only modems that work are true modems that does not require that software.

A little homework may save you a lot of embarrassment. The lucent winmodem driver location is to be found on http://www.linmodems.org. I am using the drivers with kernel 2.2.18, and they work well.
