How do you check the cable and terminator ,
I usualy just run the diagnostics that caome with the card , but that will just tell you if you have a bad cable , nothing more.
What is the procedure for checking the cable and terminators , Both Thin ethernet(bnc) and twisted pair. I had a real nasty intermitent problems with both a card and cable at the same time. Talk about pulling your hair. Out of frusttration opted to upgrade to hub and 100m mg twisted pair cards. Turned out real nice , exept for the 486 that wont run 100 mg. Cant win them all.
I'm embarrassed to give a simple answer, but "swap with known good ones". Sometimes just removing them and putting them back restores good mettallic contact. I would say to whip out a digital voltmeter, but I'm not positive what the resistance should be. Probably 50 ohms. But the cable can only really be checked for shorts or opens, since high frequencies are involved, a simple ohmmeter check won't be reliable enough. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
