Thank you kindly, Darren I have downloaded the RPM for Default Kernel, which, I believe, comes, supposedly, complete with ALL necessary Modules. Thus, it seems "mysterious" that one needs to compile ones own kernel with the block device "loop" ~ this ought to be IN the modules provided :( This was the error message that I was getting :- ____________________________________ AIG:~ # /sbin/mk_initrd using "/dev/hda7" as root device (mounted on "/" as "reiserfs") creating initrd "//boot/initrd" for kernel "//boot/vmlinuz" (2.4.18-4GB) 10000+0 records in 10000+0 records out mke2fs 1.26 (3-Feb-2002) tune2fs 1.26 (3-Feb-2002) Setting interval between check 0 seconds ioctl: LOOP_SET_FD: Invalid argument failed to mount image AIG:~ # _________________________ ~ much appreciated ~ thanks richard .....................................
Hi; Yes, make sure you set loop as a module in the block device section of make xconfig. Then compile the kernel (and modules) as normal and mkinitrd should work (it worked for me).
