Pointing it to /dev/audio (from its default /dev/dsp) took care of it. Thanks. Curtis Rey wrote:
Ok, the 3 big ones! /dev/dsp --linked to-->/dev/dsp0 (unless something unusual is going on), then /dev/audio -->/dev/audio0, and /dev/mixer -->/dev/mixer0. Also make sure you have the correct permissions. usually r and x will do (read and enter), but you can see if just "r" will do (better because if there's a flaw e.g. buffer overflow=vunerability, then it really is hard to exploit it - chances are there's not).

How do I find out which driver file (i.e., /dev/*) my sound card is using? I just installed VMWare and I have to tell it which device to point.
