I've looked all over for this but can't find it. The .bash_history seems to default to 500, I'd like to jack this up to 2000 or 3000 - how do I do this? What are the ramifications of doing this? Thank you.
There are 2 environment variables .. HISTSIZE is the maximum number of commands to remember in a single session HISTFILESIZE is the maximun number of commands to write to the history file (HISTFILE, usually ~/.bash_history) The easiest way to change these settings is to put something like export HISTSIZE='1000' export HISTFILESIZE='1000' in your /~.bashrc HTH sjb
