but why do you need to have virtualbox running as root? I fail to see the need.
gnomesu worked !!
As far as running as root. I'm running Oracle's version. Even the start menu icon will not start.
Running as root is definitely NOT necessary nor desirable.
From the user manual at: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02.html#id2649623 "The group vboxusers will be created during installation. Note that a user who is going to run VirtualBox must be member of that group."
So add your user to that vboxusers group (easy with YAST, if you don't want to do it on command line), log out, log in and VBox will work as you expect and want it to - eg from a desktop icon.

Thank you all. I must have missed that the last time I upgraded. I knew I had it running as non-root before but I couldn't put my figure on why and what I did to make it so.
I've added this step to my "tickle" file for the next time this happens.

By the way, besides downloading directly from the Oracle site, Oracle also maintains a repository, here: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/opensuse/11.3/ This is the same "proprietary" version (the OSE version is in the SuSE repo). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
