I am putting together a networking system. The help I have received from this group has been outstanding. I now need the advice of the group on the different brands of hubs. I would appreciate the groups opinions on the following brands of hubs.
wisecom, IBM, netgear, hawking, asante, umax, linksys.
I used wisecom with no problems for a 10Mb network.
The network cards I have obtained are 10mbps cards. Does the hub have to be a 10mbps or will the cards work with a 100mbps hub? I realize that 100mbps may be overkill, but if the price is right....
If you get a 100Mb hub, make sure that the hub is marked as a 10/100 or "auto-sensing". A 100Mb-only hub will not work with 10Mb cards. A 10/100 or "auto-sensing" hub can work with either 10Mb or 100Mb network cards. Be sure that your cables are listed as CAT-5 so you can upgrade later to a 100Mb network by only changing the network cards.
