a while back I was playing with 2.4 kernels and upgraded
modutils on my 7.0 box, for one reason or another, i need to stay with

because x can't find the modprobe command? can i revert back to the original 7.0
modutils package? how?
I think that you can find the entire 7.0 distribution on the SuSE website. I believe that modutils is in either series "a" or series "aaa_base". Or you can find it in full-names.
i've got the cds, but how to go about removing the 2.4 package, if i do "rpm -e modutils" i get error message stating that dependencies will be broken, will they be okay if i use --force? and then re-install the old rpm?
I'm no expert on this, but I'd guess that "rpm -Uhv modutils-rpm --force" would work (where modutils-rpm is replaced by the actual file location).

thanks for the inspiration Paul, I decided to go for it, (this isn't a mission-critical box anyway :), fired up yast and installed modules.rpm ......the r128 module loads now.....i had just installed XFree86-4.03, now i have a new problem - xawtv no longer works, error says it can't find /dev/video, i tried it as root thinking it may be a permission problem, but didn't work that way either.... so i ran MAKEDEV.v4l again and re-tried, still no go.... files look like this: root@eischeid:/dev > ls -l /dev/video lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 May 29 23:08 /dev/video -> /dev/video0 root@eischeid:/dev > ls -l /dev/video0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 81, 0 May 29 23:08 /dev/video0 any ideas? also kv4lsetup and kwintv fail..... -- proud Linux user since kernel 1.1.54 icq#42235604
