I used Digikam, and it worked out very well. I had about 500 pictures of Canada and Alaska. The other aspect that I need to do is to put the pictures up on a photo sharing site, such as Google or Yahoo.

I'm pretty sure that Picasa will upload to Google. f-spot has flickr support the last time I checked, likewise digikam will let you export to flickr (and there's also kflickr if you want to upload outside of your photo management app). I use flickr so not too sure what your options are for Google photo sharing.
