Finally changed the default kernel for leap 15. First 4.9.x and now 4.19.15. As expected, I got rid of tearing - mostly the bottom half of the screen - while using KDE zoom functionality. I guessed before that 4.12 had a problem with the Nouveau drivers so I changed to another kernel. Now finally I can use Leap 15 as my production environment. Strange, however, that nobody reported similar behavior before, at least not to my knowledge.
