True! Last September, at work, I set up a DELL 200MHz box with two HDs, using SuSE 6.4. It has been running 24/7 every since then and is only booted because the network folks want to run Nortens Ghost to back it up every so often. It has NEVER crashed, or even hiccupped!! The net fols KNOW IT, TOO. The box is right across from the network admins cubical. He sees it every day. And, he and his crew are repairing Win2000s every day too. It's got to be eating at him... He used to razz me a lot about Linux, sometimes mockingly, but
Give him a copy of 7.1 , it rocks , and have him install it , Its real close to taking the desktop , very close , as in almost there ! I just lookked at my linux samba server and noticed its still on 6.2 and has been running flawless , so much so I have not wnated to tinker with it , or even had to tinker with it since I set it up. Frankly I see no need to update that box , and have been updateing the desktop boxes that are used on theclent side. server just humms along. On a side note , my two boys 9 and 10 stoped by and commented on the kde2 desktop asking what that was . To make a long story short , I let them play a few of the games. I took home the suse 7.1 DVD and slaped it on my hoime pc blowing away an old back up 4 gig partion and installed it. Loaded up a bunh of games , and let them have there way with it. Fumy thing , this morning they asked my why it dod not crash like win98 does. Nice to know that they cant srew up the system with a few erent mouse and menu click. posted a note on the pc so my wife can get back into windows. that has
stopped completely!
Best,
Fred
