Hello Jay: I'm running SuSE 9.3 / 64-bit mode on an AMD 64 on an Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard. As 9.3 came on a dual-layer DVD, I wanted to burn a backup copy so I purchased a LG GSA-4163B CD/DVD player/burner. The mechanical install was easy and, after re-booting, SuSE asked if I wanted to install new hardware (the DVD burner). In less than two hours, I had installed and burned my first dual-layer DVD with no problems. No hunting on the Internet for the right driver, no searching for the right CD/DVD - everything just worked. I'm living in Ottawa, Canada, and I purchased this unit on sale for about Cdn$70. It works fine under SuSE and will burn any flavor of DVD. Hope this helps. Cheers, Mike On Monday 11 July 2005 2:30 pm, Patrick Shanahan wrote:

I have *always* had good luck with Plextors.
Am I better off with an external USB, or internal IDE?
Depends on what *you* want and *your* usage expectations and present equipment.
