I've found one reason to use the newer print package plp in place of the Berkeley relic lprold: plp supports the -Z option on lpr (for extra options) while lpr doesn't. Are there any reasons not to switch from lprold to plp?
Apparently a number of people are having problems with the plp package, which are solved by switching to lprold. As a result, it has been suggested to a lot of people to use lprold instead (probably too many, but if it works...).
Looks like both lpr and plp have problems. Doesn't 6.3 include another contender, lprng? How's that one?
