[SLE] I need a help with perl

Hello I need to hack somebody's else code but I don't know an iota about perl. It is a function which gets the full pathname for a file, however the pathname has spaces and = on it. How can I use the same variable but changing spaces for \-space and = for \=. Thanks a lot.
