Thank you all for the answers.
Let's see: The disc was finalized. In the meantime I tested the DVD in different DVD and DVD- RW drives and all of them saw the content of the DVD. Only my NEC fails. Here are different test result:
<snip>
mounting: # mount /dev/hda /mnt -t iso9660 mount: block device /dev/hda is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so
<snip> The wodim stuff suggests nothing odd. Though DVD-RW/DVD-R media is not the best choice for data work... Your DVD unit is not able to write DVD+RW, but should be capable of reading such media even if this capability is not mentioned. (DVD+RW does not need finalizing among other things and is designed to be read by DVD-R devices). I would try ... mount -t iso9660 <your device name> <your mount point> With DVD in drive. You will probably need to to do this as root. If it loads OK start saving up for a new writer but to be certain burn a another RW DVD and test it , if it does not work at all you probably need a new writer. The dmesg output suggests the writer is attempting to read beyond the end of the media for info and not finding it.
