System:Configuration:Install Software calls a title-less YaST2 module where updating the system is hidden under: Package:All Packages:Update
cl to the rescue: yast -l will list the individual yast modules available on your system interesting modules: sw_single update inst_source online_update online_update_setup the cl is *still* "A Good Thing(TM!)".
I configured it to use the following repositories: Filter:Repositories: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss/ http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/10.3 http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/ http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_10.3/ http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/10.3/ http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/10.3/ Is this a good choice ?
Yes, but you might as well ask me if you made a good choice when you wed :^)
Unfortunately i don't see how to edit or change the list there. And in the Change Log i miss the version names in the list.
I cannot answer for sure, but "inst_source" and "online_update_setup" would be likely candidates
Updating Channels in Smart-Gui Package Manager is just as awkward,
you are voicing an opinion w/o knowledge. And, for the most part, I prefer the cl, but the gui is handy at times.
and it lists different addresses: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/oss/ http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss/ http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/RPM System (no URL)
yes, the ones you configured. the last is what is installed on your box.
Is the first just an alias of the URL used in Yast ?
do not understand the question???? First what and smart does *not* use YaST in any manner that I am aware.
What is openSUSE Updater using ? It currently reports two security updates i don't see in Yast2. And Yast2 just updated a few apps that Updater did not see.
You can rightly say that i don't understand how to update OpenSuse 10.3, but i would also say it's a bit of a mess :-)
again, you are making opinionated statements where you lack sufficient knowledge :^)
Especially in contrast to the professionalism that goes into building all those updates.
present a scenario and ask specific questions and maybe I/we can better help you to understand. - -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHT1AAClSjbQz1U5oRAmmFAJ4nN0NlKpT8KAb46JuriZSMkNqkBwCcCqy0 F+x2WhvFVjWuvGaX55MQ8jc= =5vrx -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
