extra buttons on a mouse

Hi, been given a couple of mice with 6 buttons on them instead of the usual two or three to see if can get them working under Linux (SuSE 8.2). A business I help keep "linuxed" has staff complaining of repetitive clicking between screens and was told they could get around this by using the extra buttons to autoswap screens (by a winsows expert of course). I know how to get the extra keycodes on a keyboard, but how do i tell the program to look on the mouse ps/2 port instead of the keyboard port? pretty please for Christmas thanks scsijon
