I have an external SATA3 2TB Western Digital HDD which is formatted (at the moment) in ntfs.
When I switch it on Dolphin opens this HDD and I can see all the files it contains.
But unlike what I got in 12.2 when I start mc (Midnight Commander, my much preferred file manager) mc doesn't 'see' this HDD. In 12.2 it used to be mounted in /media/<name of HDD> .
Well, then use "df" to find out where your DE mounts it. Most likely it is /run/media/<your-user-name>/<device-label>
In /etc/filesystem I have 'ntfs' as an addition to the list of file
systems.
So, why isn't the HDD mounted in /media as in the past?
This is question to those who write this software, not to those who use it.
Any clues, please?

PS The HDD is also recognised in XP and accessible by all file managers (which I have in XP).
I don't know why it is but on my 12.3 such externaal drives now get mounted in /home/michael/media/name of drive
Thanks Michael - it wasn't there. In a moment of exceptional inspiration [tm] ( :-) ) I used Dolphin itself to find it (by looking at the HDDs Properties).
The darn this is mounted in:
/var/run/media/<my-login-name>/
Why there, for chrissake?!
At least I found it.

Basil, How are you making it mount in the first place without dolphin? When I connect an external drive with 12.3 I am asked by a notifier if I want to open the drive in dolphin. If I say no, it doesn't mount at all. :( Verified by that very simple command "mount". If I then open dolphin and click on the drive on the left side, it gets mounted where you say, but also in /run/media/<my-user-name>. I do most of my production work on external drives from the command line so having to jump to dolphin is a pain. Especially if I'm using a terminal console (cntrl-alt-f2, etc.) Greg -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail.
