Hello, Darrell. This is probably not a definitive answer, but it is something I would check first. Go into Yast, and under the Network Interfaces section, make sure that the second interface is enabled. Oftentimes, a second NIC will not be enabled by default. It sounds like the driver installed OK, but you do have to enable it in order for it to be used. This is simply an on/off toggle. You also use the same screen in Yast to give it a static IP or tell it to use DHCP. Which DSL router are you using ? Hopefully it is a nice little Cisco 675. With one of these, you can plug it into a hub, and then use it as your gateway for both machines. This saves the hassle of setting up your Linux box as a firewall/router. The Cisco 675 is relatively secure, and really only needs to have a firewall behind it if you are truly paranoid or genuinely at risk. Just be sure to use non-routable IPs (10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x etc) for your internal boxes, and use NAT to pass your network traffic to the outside world. Bye for now, Stuart. -----Original Message----- From: suse-linux-e-return-50938-stuart=yorkshirepudding.com@lists.suse.com [mailto:suse-linux-e-return-50938-stuart=yorkshirepudding.com@lists.suse.com ]On Behalf Of Darrell Nobles Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2001 4:13 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Realteak 8139 I have a question about network cards. I have 2 PC's that I want to network- one Win98 (for family use) and my own Linux 6.3. The Linux PC is connected to the internet by a DSL connection and 2 NIC's an NE 2000 compatble card, and a realtek PCI 8139 card. Where is the best documentation on setting up my home network? And finally- 6.3 detected both network cards but I only see the link light on one card, the NE. I can see eth0 and eth1 startup at boot, but can only use on to connect to my DSL NE 2000- do I have to do anything special with this PCI NIC to make it work.
