Root password no good in KDE anymore?

Somewhere after the last update, kdesu will not accept my root password anymore, such as when I want to run Yast. (OpenSUSE 10.1 KDE 3.5.4(a)) If I open a shell, I can su to root with that password with no problem. So the password is good, but any attempt to use it in the pop-up that KDE puts up results in bad password? What's up with that? Is this a known bug?
