Dear all, I have encountered troubles configuring ADSL connection under SUSE Linux 9.0 PROwith an ethernet modem IPM DATACOM SpeedWeb Ethernet, even if, browsing several sites I have discovered that: 1. This modem works excellently with many distros according to a lot of users messages posted in various mailing lists, sites, etc. 2. The problem does not depend on the ISP 3. The ADSL set-up is very easy using ethernet modem (!!!) The problem I got is, I suppose, a dialog one between the ethernet card and the device: I am sure that both the modem and the line are fine (they both are ok under WinXP), and also the ethernet is ok (I have used it for connection to LAN in my workplace, the machine is a laptop: moreover, the <ifcofig eth0> command gives back info about it). Let me describe what I have done: 1. hardware connection (everything shut down) 2. machine up 3. YAST configuration of the ethernet card (I have removed any trace about previous LAN connection such static IP, Gateway and DNS) 4. modem up --> all the leds on were the same of WinXP, and dmesg tells me that the modem is properly recognised 5. installation of rp-pppoe 3.5 software and configuration with alla the stuff (including DNS given by the server) 6. loading of the kernel modules for ADSL connection (pppoe, etcetc.) There was no way to access to Internet: the connection was timed out even increasing the connection waiting time. I suppose that the two items couldn't see each other: do you have any idea about how to fix this problem ? Or do you have any alternative solution in order to become a happy web surfer with my new very fast connection using this device ?? ;-) [I know that someone could configure adsl connection even using only pppoe and without configuring ethernet card at all with the same ISP but under DEBIAN distro] Thanx a lot LM ................................................................................
