In SuSE 7.0 I haven't been able to use kppp which I was used to, this new kinternet is just a damn mess it seems, unable to use that. So there's just old faithful wvdial left, and I concider that a good chouce, it only gets better. Once you get the hang of configuring it it's a beauty, fast and effective.....:-)
Hm, kinternet doesn't do anything other than calling wvdial ... Here's what it does:
No dial mode configured in /etc/rc.dialout. Use YaST2 to configure. I go to YaST2 -> Network/Modem+ISDN -> Launch Module -> Trying to detect modem and WHAM! it's gone with a crash! A typical YaST2 'feature' since 6.4. But the modem and wvdial were already configured and I run it as user without problems, I don't need kinternet.
chmod u+s /opt/kde/bin/kppp should fix the problems with kppp. But be aware that this is a security risk.
OK! This worked thank you. What's the security risk?
