I think you should report in Bugzilla.
Yes. The VM system relies on a known, allocated amount of memory in low address space to act as the page mapping tables. certain types of what are best described as 'fragmentation' can cause that to overflow. Of course, it is a configurable parameter :-) If you know ahead of time that your application spread is going to place that sort of demand on memory (and you know about VM algorithms and all about this, which to be honest I need more, MUCH MORE coffee in my system to be able to advise on) (and which the kernel docco doesn't discuss! [and yes, I've checked]) and know how to tune the parameters, then, well, you can tune the parameters. Of course if this were the Real World(tm) you would be paying for support from SUSE (or possibly, being the real World(tm) you would actually be using Redhat and using IBM support) and could call and expect professional advise from someone who knows more about the VM system than the likes of Thee or Mee. Meanwhile, after picking your self up from the floor and calming down your giggles, you might tell us about the application set and environment, because, as your know, and that I keep say (but sometimes I think to no avail) Context is Everything
